Software Review

(malware removal, adware, spyware)
2009.04.14 Update
I don't use Ad-Aware as often as I used to. It hasn't helped me rid a computer of anything but the most common malware in a while. While I still think it is good software, other programs like Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware seem to do what it does plus more.

Ad-Aware (free) is wonderful malware removal software which, when used in conjunction with Spybot S&D, removes the vast majority of typical spyware, adware, and other malware.

Both programs offer some type of 'active' mode which I don't especially recommend. Active protection can consume valuable system resources and slow down an aging computer. I don't doubt that the active modes work well, I just prefer to run scans manually for each program once a month or so (after updating) to keep my system clean.

Mal-ware removal is not a adequate substitute for updated, constant, anti-virus software such as AVG, Avast, Avira (or Clamwin -- manual or scheduled scans only -- for commercial use). [go to software page]
