Software Review

(image editing, manipulating, authoring)
GIMP is most easily described as a freeware, open source PhotoShop (hereafter, referred to as PS)alternative. It is not designed to be a PS clone (GimpShop, based on GIMP, fills that niche), but offers similar features and has comparable capabilities.

I've used PhotoShop and GIMP, but have been using GIMP for a while regularly. Others have told me that PS is easier to use. I've had no trouble using GIMP and have found tutorials to walk me through any fancy manipulations I wanted to accomplish. I use it mostly for editing photographs.

For basic adjustments, a less exhaustive solution such as XnView or Picasa should be used. [go to software page]
